Can we use a specific song?
-Yes!  We want to add to your special day and bring life to a song that represents your new life together! Even if you can’t make up your mind between songs, the instructors at Imperial Ballroom can help.  Every song has a different rhythm and tempo, therefore, each song can be used for different dances.  Sometimes, it is a good idea to have 2-3 songs in mind in order to find a dance, rhythm, and speed that is comfortable for you to dance together!

What if we don’t have a song?
-No problem!  The professionals at Imperial are more than happy to make recommendations.  During your lessons, you will be taught a few different dances that typically match most songs.  Once you know how to dance, all you have to do is play some music to it!  Its that easy!

When should we start?
-Right NOW!  Often, people believe that it is best to wait until right before the wedding to take dance lessons.  This is a major disadvantage to you!  With dancing, it takes time and practice.  You want to get started as soon as you can!  We recommend that you begin taking lessons and continue until you are comfortable dancing together and satisfied with your results.  From there, you can always use leftover time to simply practice at home, and it’s one less detail to be concerned about as the big day approaches.  Also, generally the closer that you get to your big day, the less free time you have to come for lessons!  When it comes to your wedding, the last thing you want is to be stressing over your first dance; it is a much better idea to start early so that you do not have to worry about squeezing in lessons, and still making mistakes a week before the big day!  Starting early will guarantee a beautiful dance that will live on forever in your wedding video and pictures!

Are you LGBTQ+ friendly?
-ABSOLUTELY! Dance is a beautiful expression for everyone and every love should be celebrated!

Top Ten QUESTIONS for Wedding Dance Couples!

  1. Q: When should we start taking wedding dance lessons?

A: Ideally, you should start taking wedding dance lessons 3-6 months before your wedding date. This will give you ample time to learn the dance, practice, and feel confident on your big day.

  2. Q: How many lessons will we need?

A: The number of lessons needed varies depending on your dance experience and the complexity of the routine you desire. Most couples require anywhere between 10 - 20 lessons to feel comfortable and confident with their wedding dance.

  3. Q: Can we choose our own song for the wedding dance?

A: Absolutely! Choosing a song that holds special meaning to you as a couple makes the dance even more memorable. Your instructor can help you select the best dance style to match your chosen song.

  4. Q: What if we have no dance experience?

A: No worries! Wedding dance instructors are experienced in working with beginners and will teach you the steps and techniques needed to make your dance look beautiful and effortless.

  5. Q: Can we incorporate our cultural background into the wedding dance?

A: Yes, incorporating cultural elements into your wedding dance is a great way to personalize the experience and honor your heritage. Discuss your ideas with your instructor, who can help you create a unique and meaningful routine.

  6. Q: What should we wear to our dance lessons?

A: Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. It's also a good idea to practice in the shoes you plan to wear on your wedding day to ensure you're comfortable dancing in them.

  7. Q: What if we don't want a choreographed routine?

  8. Q: Can we include our wedding party in the dance?

A: Including your wedding party in the dance can make for a fun and memorable experience. Talk to your instructor about your ideas, and they can help you create a group routine or provide lessons for your wedding party members.

  9. Q: How long should our wedding dance be?

A: Most wedding dances last between 2-3 minutes. You can work with your instructor to adjust the length of your dance based on your preferences and the chosen song.

  10. Q: What if we're nervous about dancing in front of others?

A: It's normal to feel nervous about dancing in front of your wedding guests. Your instructor will help you build confidence through practice and provide tips on how to manage your nerves on the big day. Remember, your guests will be thrilled to see you enjoying your special moment, regardless of your dance expertise.
